| The strange case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886)
is a moral allegory in the shape of a mystery thriller. Two extremes, good and evil, coexist within one person, Dr. Henry Jekyll, who develops a chemical potion that transforms himself into a fearsome monster, desirable by many as the liberation of the inner self: Mr. Hyde. This tale works as the motto of this project, which follows the transportation of the spectator into a different reality by the means of Art as the chemical potion |
| El Gabinete de Hyde is an Arts Centre devoted to a continuous activity in favour of visual arts and culture. A diverse and professional staff ensures a carefully devised selection of both traditional and innovative approaches to the art scene. The project is supported by many individuals and both private and public institutions.
Our premises are located within the historic old town of Malaga, in an area architecturally developed in the mid XIX century. The space is distributed in two floors with the top floor holding the main gallery area, a large conference room (with about 100 seats capacity) as well as the administrative and office space. The ground floor holds a cafeteria, a book shop and a small information point which will inform the customers about any cultural activity happening around and beyond the city.
On top of this we count with a delightful Andalusian style patio which will host late evening and summer events and a large indoor concert venue, rounding up to 380 square meters of space, to be found on Calle Nosquera, 11.
We intend our facilities to be a space in which to create, share and mix proposals: a laboratory of ideas. We are creating a neat literature, music and video library through a program of acquisition and interchange that will be available to any individual. El Gabinete de Hyde is committed to act as a leading Arts House, always developing its relationships with both artists and the community.
